Thank you for taking an interest in Marshalls Park Academy.
Our vision is to ensure that all of our students are enabled to achieve to the very best of their ability and beyond. We will achieve this by ensuring that every lesson counts; through good and outstanding teaching and focusing on the individual needs of each and every student. In many respects, our philosophy is straightforward; we want all of our students to receive an excellent education to help them to prepare for their future lives.
Whilst we are currently considered to be “requiring improvement”, we believe that Marshalls Park Academy is a successful and vibrant school at the centre of its local community. The school has been over-subscribed for many years, and has regular appeals for places. I have just started here as Headteacher and yet already I share the passion the students have for the school; I am however ambitious that the school improves further and becomes recognised as a centre of excellent learning for the whole community and beyond.
Marshalls Park Academy is a slightly smaller than average 11-16 secondary school, currently 845 students, set in the London Borough of Havering close to the centre of Romford. As such, we have a mixed demographic of students that is representative of the local area although students will have mixed views as to whether they are from Essex or London!
We believe passionately that to achieve lasting school improvement, the critical element is the investment a school places in its staff, and that starts from recruiting the best teachers and ambitious leaders to instil that climate of change in the school.
I believe Marshalls Park Academy is the perfect choice of school if you desire an excellent education for your child as well as a safe and enjoyable learning environment. If you have the passion, energy and drive to help us become even better, then Marshalls Park could well be the employer of choice for you!
Marshalls Park Academy was opened in 1936 as Pettits Senior Council School. It was enlarged in 1945-6 and later became Pettits Secondary School.
In 1973 it was amalgamated with Romford County Technical School to form Marshalls Park Comprehensive, with this being known as the Upper School and Pettits Lane being the Lower School.
In July 1999 the Upper School in Havering Drive was closed, and the two schools combined on the Pettits Lane site. This necessitated an 18-month, £5.5 million modernisation, including a new sports hall, refurbished classrooms, music room, computer rooms, large library and science laboratories. The new site was officially opened by the Rt Hon. David Blunkett, MP, the then Secretary of State for Education. In 2006, it was designated Specialist Status for the Performing Arts and a new Dance Studio extending in to the central Quad was completed in 2010 and still retains a strong commitment to the Performing Arts.
As you can see from the website, social media feeds and our newsletter, we see the role of education as more than just qualifications; we believe Marshalls Park has a rich offering of extra-curricular activities, good learning facilities, and excellent culture of ambition and achievement.
We offer a range of benefits to our staff, including the following:
The London Borough of Havering is a London borough in east London and forms part of Outer London. The borough is mainly characterised by suburban development with large areas of protected open space.
The principal town in Havering is Romford and the other main communities are Hornchurch, Upminster and Rainham. Romford was part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century. It significantly expanded and increased in population, becoming a municipal borough in 1937 and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. It now forms one of the largest commercial, retail, entertainment and leisure districts outside central London.
Romford has excellent transport links to London, via Stratford and will be on the new CrossRail link when it opens. It is 10 minutes from the M25 giving easy access to all London Airports. The Essex countryside and coastline are within 1 hour’s drive of the town.
